Building models requires using paint. Lots of paint. And from what I have noticed, there is not one modeler who uses just one brand of paint to get the job(s) done, simply because you always need that one particular colour that your favourite brand does not have in its line of paints.

I, too, found out that it takes more than one brand to get the results you want. I now use about three or four different brands.
paints
 Tamiya paints...
Manufacturer: Tamiya
Type of paints: Acrylic paints
Bottle contents: 10ml
Quality: 5 stars
Thinner: Tamiya Acrylic Thinner X-20A
Mixture ratio (thinner/paint): 1:3
Colour charts: Tamiya website

Tamiya Acrylic paints
Tamiya Acrylic paints are my favourite paints. They tend to not require much thinner and most colours need no second layer of paint to cover a model. Although the bottles are a tad more expensive than the Vallejo paints, they are well worth the additional cost.
 Model Master paints...
Manufacturer: Model Master
Type of paints: Enamel/acrylic paints
Bottle contents: 14,7ml
Quality: 5 stars
Thinner: Model Master Thinner 2018 (for enamel paints)
or water (for acrylic paints)
Mixture ratio (thinner/paint): 2:3

Model Master paints
The only reason I bought Model Master paint is because they make the colour Flat Gull Grey, which I needed for the Millennium Falcon. When I started my modeling career, I owned just one bottle of paint from this brand. Now, when writing this page, I own quite a few bottles more. The variety of colours is huge and they have a colour for almost every FS number. One thing that I dislike about this brand is that their enamel paints are a bit smelly.
 Polly Scale paints...
Manufacturer: Floquil
Type of paints: Acrylic paints
Bottle contents: 15ml
Quality: 4 stars
Thinner: Polly Scale Thinner F546008 or water
Mixture ratio (thinner/paint): 1:3

Polly Scale paints
Polly Scale paints are available in a wide range of colours. Quite a lot of them are matching the FS numbers. A slightly negative note, hence the four star rating: these paints tend to require at least two layers of paint before they cover solidly.
 Revell paints...
Manufacturer: Revell
Type of paints: Enamel paints
Bottle contents: 25ml
Quality: 3 stars
Thinner: n/a
Mixture ratio (thinner/paint): n/a

Revell paints
Revell is a well known name on the paint market. They make good enamel paints, although they tend to require at least two layers of paint before the coverage is 100%. On top of that, the paint takes close to two full days to dry thouroughly.
 Vallejo paints...
Manufacturer: Vallejo
Type of paints: Acrylic paints
Bottle contents: 17ml
Quality: 4 stars
Thinner: Water
Mixture ratio (thinner/paint): 1:1
Colour charts: Vallejo website

Vallejo paints
The nice thing about Vallejo paints is that they do not require a special thinner. Simply adding water will thin the paints. They come in a wide range of 220 colours.
 Winsor & Newton oil paints...
Manufacturer: Winsor & Newton
Type of paints: Oil paints
Tube contents: 60ml
Quality: 5 stars
Thinner: Water
Mixture ratio (thinner/paint): 10:1
Colour charts: Download the Galeria Acrylics colour chart Acrylics

Winsor & Newton paints
When creating washes, I use Winsor & Newton Galeria oil paints. I thin them with water, using a mixture of respectively 1:10.
